Williamsburg, VA Landscape Design Services

Buiding a beautiful landscape isn't something completed off impulse. Years of experience and careful planning ensure that your landscape will be beautiful, functional, and safe.

Landscape Design is the “thinking” process of the landscape project. Its brother, installation is the “doing” process. Yes, the installation phase will produce more sweat and energy, but the art, craft, and experience shine in the design phase. All projects will benefit from a well-thought-out plan.

At American Dream Landscapes, we offer our potential clients an expert analysis of what will benefit their property and the process we will take to get it done. We do this all free of charge.

We offer landscape design services for residential and commercial clients in Williamsburg, James City County and York County, Virginia.

An Understanding of the Environment

When our team comes to your home, views your property, and listens to what you want to accomplish, their wheels spin the second they get out of the truck.

Successful landscape design relies on these three elements:

  • Aesthetics – looking good
  • Function – will it flow and “work” for your needs
  • Safety – will it provide a safe environment for your family, friends, and pets

When we design projects for our clients, we constantly think about these elements. So let’s break them down.

Landscape Design: Aesthetics

A fancy word for “is it beautiful.” We aim to make everything we put effort into more beautiful than we found it. Accomplishing that task requires us to look into the future and ask many questions while working up the design. These question include, but are not limited to:

  • How will our design enhance the built structure (home or commercial building)?
  • What types of plants or trees will we include in our design to complement the built structure?
  • What will those plants or trees look like 5, 10, 15 years from now?
  • What plant installs will complement this natural landform?
  • Will an alteration to the landform improve its beauty?

That’s just the tip of the iceberg regarding our questions when looking at a potential project.

When it comes to built structures, landforms, and client budgets, every single project is unique; therefore, our process will be unique when designing something that fits a specific aesthetic profile.

Landscape Design: Function

Pure beauty is great, but most people contact us to improve their space’s beauty AND make it more functional. We take this into account when drawing up designs for our clients.

Here are some questions we take into account when planning the function of your space:

  • Can people move freely through this planned space?
  • What level of upkeep does the client want regarding plants or trees installed?
  • Where does the sunrise, and where does it set regarding the existing structure and landform?
  • If this is a commercial space, what is the flow of customers, employees, or residents on the grounds?

Where aesthetic is concerned with beauty, function is about making it all work and be “easy” to live and go about your business within the defined landscape.

Landscape Design: Safety

No matter the size or scope of the project, safety is critical for a successful landscape design.

While the other elements have many questions, safety is pretty cut and dried. We ask two questions:

  • Does the current landform present any features that lack safety that we can improve?
  • Is our design, regarding its use, free of any potential safety hazards?

We want to make sure we offer you a design that ensures your family, friends, and pets are safe in a residential setting.

We want to provide the same care for employees, customers, and residents in a commercial landscape.

Your Landscape Design Proposal

After we have completed all the analysis of the elements mentioned above, we will provide you with a detailed landscape design proposal for your approval before we start on the project.

This proposal will be detailed. One former client, Stephen, even mentioned in an online review that the proposal we offered him for a retaining wall project was “one of the most detailed” he has viewed.

This proposal will offer you a detailed look at the costs associated with the project, and you will also receive a clear visual representation of your space and our final plans for it.

We take pride in our proposals.

Client Testimonial

Daniel was responsive and gave a fair quote for the work. His crew was professional, knowledgeable, on time, and even worked one day in miserable conditions. The end result is fantastic, safer, and with an attention to craftsmanship better than whomever did the original installation.

We highly recommend American Dream Landscapes!
